Iain was born in Plean (a little village near Stirling), and grew up in Glasgow. He studied composition at Glasgow University with George Newson and Lyell Cresswell. His first job was pianist/composer with a theatre group, then he taught piano in schools. He now lives in Edinburgh.

Iain’s work includes instrumental, chamber, vocal and orchestral scores. Performances in the UK include Bath Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Spittalfields Festival. Performances in other countries have taken place in France, Germany, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and New Zealand.

Iain’s music has been performed by An-ti-fon, Ensemble Bash, BBC Philharmonic, Michael Bonaventure, Kevin Bowyer, Britten Sinfonia, Cappella Nova, Chamber Group of Scotland, Don Banks Trio, Elole Trio Dresden, Ensemble Aleph, Ensemble 175 East, Emperor String Quartet, de Ereprijs, Isabel Ettanauer, Peter Evans, Hebrides Ensemble, Kees Hilhorst, Jane Manning, Jane’s Minstrels, Luxembourg Sinfonietta, New Zealand String Quartet, Ananda Sukarlan, Frances-Marie Uitti and Andreas van Zoelen.
